Information-Theoretic Approaches in EEG Correlates of Auditory Perceptual Awareness under Informational Masking

چکیده
In informational masking paradigms, the successful segregation between target and masker creates auditory perceptual awareness. The dynamics of build-up perception is based on a set interactions bottom–up top–down processes that generate neuronal modifications within brain network activity. These neural changes are studied here using event-related potentials (ERPs), entropy, integrated information, leading to several measures applied electroencephalogram signals. main findings show awareness stimulated functional activation in fronto-temporo-parietal through (i) negative temporal positive centro-parietal ERP components; (ii) an enhanced processing multi-information cortex; (iii) increase content fronto-central cortex. different results provide information-based experimental evidence about during

Neural Correlates of Auditory Perceptual Awareness under Informational Masking
Our ability to detect target sounds in complex acoustic backgrounds is often limited not by the ear's resolution, but by the brain's information-processing capacity. The neural mechanisms and loci of this "informational masking" are unknown. We combined magnetoencephalography with simultaneous behavioral measures in humans to investigate neural correlates of informational masking and auditory p...
متن کاملNeural Correlates of Auditory Perceptual Awareness and Release from Informational Masking Recorded Directly from Human Cortex: A Case Study
In complex acoustic environments, even salient supra-threshold sounds sometimes go unperceived, a phenomenon known as informational masking. The neural basis of informational masking (and its release) has not been well-characterized, particularly outside auditory cortex. We combined electrocorticography in a neurosurgical patient undergoing invasive epilepsy monitoring with trial-by-trial perce...
متن کاملTitle: Neural Correlates of Informational Masking in Cocktail Party Situations
Introduction The cocktail party effect refers to situations in which people must segregate auditory sources. One situation of interest is speech-in-speech comprehension, in which two types of masking are described: energetic masking produced when target and noise partially overlap in time and frequency; informational masking occurs when information from concurrent flows is of comparable nature....
متن کاملPerceptual Development and Auditory Backward Recognition Masking
Three amplitude-discrimination experiments within a backward masking task were carried out to study whether young children have a slower rate of perceptual processing than do adults. Rate of processing was defined within an explicit model of perceptual performance that allows the investigator to determine if rate is responsible for developmental differences in auditory discrimination. A develop...
متن کاملEffect of number of masking talkers and auditory priming on informational masking in speech recognition.
Three experiments investigated factors that influence the creation of and release from informational masking in speech recognition. The target stimuli were nonsense sentences spoken by a female talker. In experiment 1 the masker was a mixture of three, four, six, or ten female talkers, all reciting similar nonsense sentences. Listeners' recognition performance was measured with both target and ...
